ExTrA (Exoplanets in Transits and their Atmospheres) is a project to search for Earth-size planets transiting the brightest and nearest M dwarfs. These planets will be amenable to the characterization of their atmospheres with the world largest telescopes.
Among the detections, few planets are expected to be in the Habitable Zone of their star, and the characterization of their atmospheres may provide our first peak into an exo-life laboratory. The project is currently funded by the European Research Council (Grant Agreement n. 337591-ExTrA) and the French Agence National de la Recherche (programme ANR-12-BS05-0012 'Exo-Atmos').
